Recap: Caliche Buffaloes vs. Prairie Mustangs
It was a good run, but the Caliche Buffaloes unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Prairie by a score of 37-35. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Caliche of the 42-36 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Caliche lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ava Hernandez. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Ryann Svoboda, who scored four points along with three steals.
Prairie's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Kugler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Kugler hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for six straight games. Emily Andrews was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Caliche's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Prairie, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Caliche will head out on the road to face off against Idalia at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Caliche focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday. As for Prairie, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Otis at 3:00 p.m. Prairie's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Otis' offense will have their work cut out for them.
