Softball Preview: Yough Cougars vs. Derry Trojans
Yough is 6-0 against Derry since April of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Yough Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Derry Trojans at 4:30 p.m. The last four games Yough has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Yough took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They skirted past South Allegheny 2-1.
Kylee Fisher made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Fisher has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than six innings every time she's pitched this season. Fisher was also big at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double.
Meanwhile, Derry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell just short of South Allegheny by a score of 9-7.
Like Yough, Derry also got a great game from a two-way player: Haylee Myers. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Myers was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with a home run.
In other batting news, Bailey Legge made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Maizie Legge, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Yough now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Derry, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
