Alabama-signee McClellan leads Aledo to record ninth Texas state crown

Aledo (Texas) broke a five-way tie for most state championships in Texas high school football history with a wild 45-42 win over Fort Bend Marshall (Missouri City) Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Irving, Texas.

The Bearcats now have nine titles and hold the 11-man football record over Katy, Southlake Carroll, Celina and Mart, who all have eight.

It was the second straight 5A Division 2 championship for Aledo, which won previous titles in 1998, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018.



Jase McClellan, a 2020 Alabama signee, end his legendary high school career rushing 25 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns. He was named Offensive MVP as a freshman in 2016 and last year as a junior but this time around his quarterback took home the award.

Jake Bishop (11-of-16, 244 yards, 46 yards rushing) set the tone in the first half accounting for four touchdowns with two going to Money Parks (6 catches, 132 yards) and the other to JoJo Earle.

The Buffalos trailed 45-27 entering the fourth quarter and scored two touchdowns to cut it to 45-42 but failed to recover onside kick for one last opportunity in the final minute.

Fort Bend Marshall's 4-star quarterback Malik Hornsby accounted for more than 300 yards of total offense and three scores while 2020 Texas A&M signee Devon Achane rushed 17 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns and had seven catches for 121 yards and another score.

In all, Aledo piled up 553 yards and Fort Bend Marshall had 500.

The Bearcats end the year winners of 15 straight after a season-opening loss to No. 23 Denton Guyer (Texas), which plays for the 6A Division 2 championship against Austin Westlake (Texas) at 7 p.m. local time. Follow the game live here when it kicks off.
