Softball Game Preview: Perry-Lecompton Kaws vs. Lawrence Lions

The Perry-Lecompton Kaws will venture away from home to face off against the Lawrence Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lawrence took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Perry-Lecompton, who comes in off a win.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Perry-Lecompton and Royal Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Kaws came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 10-6 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Kaws have beaten the Panthers on their field since April 21, 2022.

Olivia Hart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Macie Corcoran was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Meaa Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Perry-Lecompton lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are 3-1 when they post two or more home runs.

Meanwhile, Lawrence unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 9-1 to Spring Hill back in April.

Perry-Lecompton's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-16. As for Lawrence, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Perry-Lecompton might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Lawrence in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Kaws avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
