Softball Recap: Rock Ridge Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against John Champe, Rock Ridge was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Handley Judges. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won five games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Sahasra Abbineni was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyra Young, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Grayson Andrews, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Rock Ridge's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Handley, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock Ridge will venture away from home to square off against Dominion at 6:30 p.m. on May 1. As for Handley, they will head out to take on Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
