Baseball Game Preview: Sandburg Eagles vs. Marian Catholic Spartans

The Sandburg Eagles will square off against the Marian Catholic Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Friday, it was close, but Sandburg sidestepped Oak Forest for a 2-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Marian Catholic had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Homewood-Flossmoor on Friday, sneaking past 6-5. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Vikings on their field since March 14, 2019.

The team relied heavily on Jonathan Trotter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 12 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazarris Mackmore, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Marian Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Marian Catholic's win bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Sandburg, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.

Sandburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Marian Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
