Independence took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Providence, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.
Maliyah Alexander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morgan Clark was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gianna McCloud, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Independence pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home.
