Basketball Recap: Frankford Takes a Loss

After flying high against Academy at Palumbo last Tuesday, Frankford came back down to earth. The Frankford Pioneers came up short against the Northeast Vikings on Thursday, falling 59-38. The Pioneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

Despite the defeat, Frankford saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Julian Colon posted eight points and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Colon. Luis Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Northeast's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonathan Miller, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds. Miller is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sharif Wallace, who went 6 of 7 en route to 15 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Frankford's loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Northeast, they moved to 9-11 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Frankford has already played their next game (against Boys' Latin Charter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Northeast will take on Carver High School of Engineering & Science at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Northeast is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
