Basketball Game Preview: Winn Mavericks vs. McCollum Cowboys

Winn hasn't had much luck against McCollum recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Winn Mavericks will face off against the McCollum Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. Winn has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Tuesday, Winn lost to Southwest Legacy at home by a 56-40 margin. That's two games in a row now that the Mavericks have lost by exactly 16 points.

Meanwhile, McCollum waltzed into their match on Tuesday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They enjoyed a cozy 70-55 victory over the Indians. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Indians are ranked 656th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McCollum pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for Winn, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.

Winn was dealt a bruising 94-37 defeat at the hands of McCollum when the teams last played back in January. Thankfully for Winn, Gabriella Gamboa (who went 11 for 16 on her way to 26 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time.
