Softball Recap: St. Joseph Catholic Extends Winning Streak to Seven

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but St. Joseph Catholic ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Alpha Omega Academy Lions. The victory was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Penny R made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, St. Joseph Catholic got a big performance out of Lucia V, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Sophie B was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

St. Joseph Catholic pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Alpha Omega Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Catholic will challenge Mumford at 4:00 p.m. on April 4. As for Alpha Omega Academy, they will square off against O'Connell at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
