Clovis North extended their winning streak to eight on Friday, bumping them up to 15-3-1. They never let the Clovis West Golden Eagles get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Broncos, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Jocelynn Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Clovis North let Zoey Thomas and Sydney Kniss run wild. Thomas went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Kniss went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Kniss a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Grealy, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Clovis North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clovis West only posted a batting average of .211.
As for Clovis West, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
On Clovis West's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Johnston, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Clovis North is set to take on their familiar foe Clovis East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Broncos 1.9, the Timberwolves 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Clovis West will face off against rival Central East at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
