Shuler Bentley on the verge of breaking South Carolina touchdown record. Also, Sean Fitzsimmons sets Arizona state record.
After throwing for eight touchdowns in last week's 76-49 win over Mauldin, Shuler Bentley of Byrnes is on the verge of breaking the South Carolina state record for career touchdown passes.
Bentley is in the middle of a spectacular season for Byrnes, as his 50 touchdown passes are tied for the national lead, according to the MaxPreps leaderboards. His 510 yards passing ranked second on the National Stat Stars list this week, but it's his touchdown pass total that has him on the verge of a record.
With 156 career touchdown passes, according to his MaxPreps career page, Bentley is just one touchdown away from breaking the career mark of 157 touchdowns held by Justin Worley of Northwestern. With 11,639 career passing yards, Bentley also moved into second place on the career yardage list in South Carolina, passing Everett Golson of Myrtle Beach, who had 11,634. Worley is the all-time leader with 13,385 yards.
