Baseball Game Preview: Brackenridge Eagles vs. Highlands Owls

Brackenridge is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Highlands a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Brackenridge Eagles take on Highlands Owls at 4:30 p.m. Brackenridge will be strutting in after a win while Highlands will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Friday, Brackenridge beat Jefferson 6-2.

Ethan Polendo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Brackenridge saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Monroy, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another was Ernesto Nunez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Highlands fell victim to Seguin and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Matadors, falling 14-0.

Brackenridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Highlands' loss dropped their record down to 2-10-1.

Everything went Brackenridge's way against Highlands in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Brackenridge made off with a 10-0 win. Does Brackenridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will Highlands turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
