Recap: Edgewater Eagles vs. Northeast Hurricanes
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Edgewater Eagles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-64 victory over Northeast. Given Edgewater's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Northeast is ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edgewater found their leader in underclassman Donovan Williams Jr., who scored 19 points along with five steals. Williams Jr. has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Mitchell, who scored 13 points.
Edgewater's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Northeast, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season.
Edgewater will be playing at home against Winter Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Winter Haven is coming into the game hot, having won their last 15 games. Northeast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Monarch at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Monarch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Friday.
