Spanish Springs falls despite strong effort from Layni Noonkester

Recap: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs

On Tuesday, the Spanish Springs Cougars faced the Damonte Ranch Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Spanish Springs took a 48-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Damonte Ranch. Spanish Springs was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Damonte Ranch apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Spanish Springs still got an impressive performance from Layni Noonkester, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Addison Bowers, who scored eight points along with two steals.

Damonte Ranch was led to victory by Josie Tierney and Mya Ghisletta. Tierney scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, while Ghisletta scored 13 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Tierney scored 15 or more points. Kylee Moscove was another key contributor, scoring five points.

Spanish Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Damonte Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spanish Springs will face off against Reno at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Reno focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday. As for Damonte Ranch, they will head out on the road to take on Bishop Manogue at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
