Basketball Recap: West Springfield Spartans vs. Woodson Cavaliers
West Springfield lost against Woodson back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The West Springfield Spartans fell 64-51 to the Woodson Cavaliers. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Cavaliers are ranked sixth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaylen Chilton, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points along with five assists and four steals. Chilton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Theo Burke, who made all 5 shots he took for 12 points.
West Springfield has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Woodson, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.
West Springfield will head out on the road to square off against Robinson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Woodson, they will host West Potomac at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Woodson has won five straight at home, while West Potomac won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
