Basketball Preview: Capital Jaguars vs. Manzano Monarchs

After two games on the road, Capital is heading back home. They will take on the Manzano Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, Capital was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-39 to the Demons.

Despite the defeat, Capital had strong showings from Annica Montoya, who scored 19 points along with five steals, and Shania Gallegos, who scored 14 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Montoya has scored all season.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 60-27, which was the final score in Manzano's tilt against the Bulldogs on Saturday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Manzano in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Capital has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Manzano, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.

Capital came up short against the Monarchs when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 68-55. Can Capital avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
