Basketball Game Preview: North Newton Spartans vs. South Newton Rebels

The North Newton Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the South Newton Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither North Newton nor South Newton posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

North Newton is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Griffith on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. North Newton lost 39-17 to Griffith.

North Newton got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Dakota Dyer and Addison Culbreth, who each put up four points. Macy Busboom held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. Tatum Cahill took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, South Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by DeMotte Christian 79-19. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 386th, while the Knights are ranked 81st).

South Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for North Newton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

North Newton didn't have too much breathing room in their game against South Newton in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 42-38 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was South Newton's Addysen Standish, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten steals.
