Volleyball Recap: Escalante Comes Up Short

If Escalante was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Pinnacle on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Moquis fell 3-1 to the Water Canyon Wildcats on Tuesday. The Moquis were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.

Escalante started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-10.

Rylee Frei paced Escalante's offense, picking up six kills. Frei got some help from Taylie Carlisle and her four assists. Finally, Alison Holcomb kept Escalante's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Escalante's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escalante will welcome Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Water Canyon, they will host Beaver Dam at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
