Softball Recap: Payette Comes Up Short

Payette extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-9. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fruitland Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on Monday.

H Collingwood was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. S Parsons also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for Fruitland, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Fruitland's side, Roxy Mason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Mason has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madison Hillman, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lydia Jangula was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payette will challenge Union at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fruitland, they will face off against Weiser at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
