Baseball Recap: Herrin Finds Home Field Redemption Against Cary-Grove

There's no place like home for Herrin, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Cary-Grove Trojans on Tuesday.

Harper Shoemaker was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Shoemaker wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaxton Faulkenberry, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Nick Hubbard, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Herrin's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Cary-Grove, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, Herrin will head out to challenge Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centralia has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.75 runs per game on average), something Herrin will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cary-Grove, they will face off against Woodstock North at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
