Garden Valley hasn't had much luck against Glenns Ferry recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wolverines will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pilots at 2:00 p.m. Garden Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Garden Valley is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They fell 10-5 to Idaho City.
Jayce Rogers made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, Glenns Ferry had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Lions.
Alan Mesillas made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has become a key player for Glenns Ferry: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-9-1 otherwise. Mesillas was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with seven stolen bases and three runs. Those seven stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Junior Sanchez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Glenns Ferry's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-2 (and 4-8-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Reynolds, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The victory got Glenns Ferry back to even at 10-10-1. As for Garden Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Garden Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .498. However, it's not like Glenns Ferry struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Garden Valley might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Glenns Ferry when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
