Basketball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Skates Past Saint Mary's Hall with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Anthony, St. Joseph Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They claimed a resounding 72-39 win over the Saint Mary's Hall Barons. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bloodhounds also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

St. Joseph Academy had a senior duo take command as Aidan Garza went 9 for 16 on his way to 23 points and three steals and Mikey Rivera went 7 of 16 on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and three steals. What's more, Garza also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Oscar Balli, who posted seven points in addition to 11 boards and three blocks.

St. Joseph Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

St. Joseph Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-11. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Saint Mary's Hall, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Coincidentally, St. Joseph Academy and Saint Mary's Hall will both be playing St. Joseph the next time they take the court. Saint Mary's Hall will host St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while St. Joseph Academy will head out to face them at 6:15 p.m. on January 17th.
