Football Recap: Gilmer Comes Up Short

Gilmer managed to slip by Kilgore the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Buckeyes were beaten by the Bulldogs 66-6 on Friday. The Buckeyes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Gilmer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tayveon Horne rushed for 146 yards and one score while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Horne is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 101 every time he's taken the field this season.

Gilmer now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Kilgore, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Coming up, Gilmer will be playing at home against Lindale at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kilgore, they will head out on the road to face off against Pleasant Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
