Baseball Game Preview: John Curtis Christian Patriots vs. Ponchatoula Green Wave

The John Curtis Christian Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Ponchatoula Green Wave at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with John Curtis Christian sitting on six straight victories and Ponchatoula on three.

John Curtis Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Patterson get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Caden Battard looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, John Curtis Christian's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Juan Washington, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Paul Dufrene also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

John Curtis Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Ponchatoula made easy work of St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday and carried off an 11-4 victory.

John Curtis Christian's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ponchatoula, their record now sits at 8-4.

John Curtis Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Ponchatoula when the teams last played back in February, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for John Curtis Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
