Baseball Recap: Jennings County Panthers vs. Jeffersonville Red Devils
Jennings County had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-8 to make it eight. They came up short against the Jeffersonville Red Devils, falling 11-1. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Jennings County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Speer, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Speer has hit this season.
As for Jeffersonville, they now have a winning record of 8-7. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 14-2).
On Jeffersonville's side, Carter Williams spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. Williams is becoming a predictor of the Red Devils' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Jeffersonville let Braylen Gray and Carter Durbin run wild. Gray went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Durbin went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Gray a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Seifert, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jennings County will head out to take on Monrovia at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Jeffersonville, they will venture away from home to square off against Brownstown Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
