Basketball Recap: St. George's Piles Up the Points Against Trezevant

The St. George's Gryphons blew past the Trezevant Bears, posting a 70-28 win. The Gryphons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 31 points or more this season.

St. George's was led to victory by Martechio 'MJ' Hayes and Carson Crump. Hayes shot 60% from the field to rack up 14 points and seven rebounds, while Crump went 5-for-9 en route to 13 points and five assists. Hayes has also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 45% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tristan Farris, who posted eight points and four steals.

St. George's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

St. George's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points over those games. As for Trezevant, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, St. George's will square off against Houston at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Trezevant, they will face off against Raleigh-Egypt at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
