Baseball Recap: St. Henry Triumphs

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but St. Henry ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Dixie Heights Colonels 7-6. Surprisingly, this marked the Crusaders' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Trey Fedders tossed a big game, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, Tyler Detzel was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of St. Henry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jackson Popil, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

St. Henry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

St. Henry pushed their record up to 8-14 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Dixie Heights, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-14.

Looking ahead, St. Henry will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Trinity at 6:00 p.m. The Shamrocks will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Dixie Heights, they are taking a road trip to face off against Highlands at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
