Baseball Game Preview: Crystal City Hornets vs. Herculaneum Black Cats

The Crystal City Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Herculaneum Black Cats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Crystal City has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Veritas Christian Academy hit Crystal City with a four-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets came up short against the Eagles, falling 12-2. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Crystal City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Eisenbeis, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was Eisenbeis' first of the season. Ricardo Pastrana was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 26 runs the game before, Herculaneum was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Clair. The defeat continues a trend for the Black Cats in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Herculaneum's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Crystal City, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Crystal City couldn't quite finish off Herculaneum in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
