Basketball Recap: Hampton Hawks vs. Palmer Tigers

The Hampton Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They fell to Palmer 48-43. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Hampton of the 34-29 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Hampton had strong showings from Nevaeh Lukassen, who scored 19 points along with four blocks and two steals, and Gavin Gilmore, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. Lukassen is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Sophia Schulze, who scored six points along with six rebounds.

Hampton has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season. As for Palmer, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hampton will take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (College View Academy is ranked 254th, while the Hawks are ranked 270th). As for Palmer, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
