Mattoon has gone 8-2 against Mt. Zion recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mattoon Greenwave will venture away from home to face off against the Mt. Zion Braves at 7:00 p.m. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Mattoon and six for Mt. Zion.

Last Tuesday, Mattoon was beaten by Taylorville 66-30. While losing is never fun, the Greenwave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 109th).

Meanwhile, Mt. Zion came up short against Glenwood on Wednesday and fell 52-39.

Mt. Zion's defeat dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Mattoon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-21.

Mattoon didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Mt. Zion in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 54-49 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mattoon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
