Softball Game Preview: Corsicana Tigers vs. Midlothian Heritage Jaguars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Corsicana Tigers challenge Midlothian Heritage Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Corsicana's win against Terrell wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Corsicana skirted past Terrell 8-7. The victory continues a trend for Corsicana in their matchups with Terrell: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Midlothian Heritage came tearing into Tuesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 16-5 win. Considering the Jaguars have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Skeylah Shirley made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Shirley was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Taylor Bilderback was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Parrish, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Midlothian Heritage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.

Midlothian Heritage pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Corsicana, their record is now 6-12-1.

Corsicana suffered a grim 20-2 defeat to Midlothian Heritage in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
