Bayside is 1-9 against Eau Gallie since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The home team had won the previous five meetings between Bayside and Melbourne Central Catholic, and Bayside kept the tradition alive. Bayside walked away with an 8-3 win over Melbourne Central Catholic on Thursday. While the Bears didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
JT Whitlow looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Johnny Good, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Folstein, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Eau Gallie owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. Everything went their way against Viera as Eau Gallie made off with a 6-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Commodores have posted against the Hawks since April 25, 2017.
Not much got past Brock Lustic, who gave up just three hits to keep Viera off the board.
On the hitting side, Eau Gallie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Cunningham, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run was Cunningham's first of the season.
Eau Gallie has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. Bayside pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
