Softball Game Preview: Swain County Maroon Devils vs. Mountain Heritage Cougars

The Swain County Maroon Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Mountain Heritage Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Swain County's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.

On Tuesday, Swain County was able to grind out a solid win over Rosman, taking the game 13-9. The victory continues a trend for the Maroon Devils in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Aria Toineeta made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Swain County got a massive performance out of Hadley Shuler, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Carley Teesateskie, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Swain County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Mountain Heritage and Mitchell, and Mitchell kept the tradition alive. The Cougars came up short against the Mountaineers on Tuesday, falling 13-7.

Mountain Heritage's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Swain County, their record is now 11-2.

Swain County beat Mountain Heritage 6-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maroon Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
