Football Recap: Benson Bunnies vs. Burke Bulldogs
Benson unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Burke Bulldogs on Friday, falling 45-9. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it ten in a row.
Benson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jermaine Samuel and Shai Bullion.
Leading Burke to victory were Carnell Dangerfield and Jasiah Summerfield. Dangerfield rushed for 175 yards and four TDs on only 12 carries, while Summerfield threw for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Dangerfield a new career-high. Brayden Gammel did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 97 receiving yards.
Coming up, Benson is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Buena Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Burke, they will welcome Creighton Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
