Highland had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Steward Spartans on Saturday as they made off with a 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 18 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Highland got a great performance from Stephen Christopher as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Christopher has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Benjy Cardone was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Dart, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Highland lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The victory was the third in a row for Highland, bringing their record up to 27-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Steward, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-11.
