Softball Recap: Cardinal Mooney Catholic Takes a Loss

Cardinal Mooney Catholic extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They lost 20-0 to the Our Lady of the Lakes Lakers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 on Wednesday.

As for Our Lady of the Lakes, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

For Our Lady of the Lakes' part, Aubrey Lyden made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Lyden has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emelia Asai was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennidy Koshorek, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Cardinal Mooney Catholic has already played their next game, a 19-5 defeat against Cabrini on the 8th. As for Our Lady of the Lakes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 0-0 win against Detroit Cristo Rey on the 10th.
