Baseball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Chicago Hope Academy's Winning Streak

Chicago Hope Academy and Newman Central Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Chicago Hope Academy had to settle for second. They fell 5-1 to the Comets. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, Chicago Hope Academy couldn't push the score so high this time.

Jayden Rivera was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

Rivera wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cesar Marquez, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Chicago Hope Academy moved to 26-13 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Newman Central Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 27-7-1.
