Baseball Recap: Volcano Vista Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Rio Rancho

Volcano Vista faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Hawks lost 11-2 to the Rams. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 9-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Volcano Vista saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alijah Romero, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Evan Tafoya also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Volcano Vista's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Rio Rancho, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-4.
