Softball Recap: Midland Trail Sets Scoring Season-High Against Richwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Midland Trail). They put the hurt on the Richwood Lumberjacks with a sharp 21-0 win on Thursday. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by nine runs or more this season.

Stephanie Harrell made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. She also scored a run, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Abby Parcell was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Mary Mcgraw was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Midland Trail kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 12.6.

Midland Trail has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Richwood, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Midland Trail didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-2 win against James Monroe on the 18th. Richwood has also already played their next matchup (against Calhoun), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
