Basketball Recap: Regis Groff Starts Season with Win Against Aurora Central

Regis Groff took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They blew past the Aurora Central Trojans 75-55. For the Fusion, this counts as revenge for the 54-29 victory the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

James Murdock had a dynamite game, dropping a double-double with 38 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least 17 points. Tyson Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten assists.

Despite the loss, Aurora Central had strong showings from Alejandro (Alex) Flores, who posted 22 points and eight boards, and Deon Davis Jr, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Flores has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyiir Hobley, who put up four points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Regis Groff will take on Aurora West College Prep Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Aurora Central, they will face off against Hinkley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
