Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Anthem Prep's Winning Streak

Anthem Prep dropped their record down to 11-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They lost 14-3 to the Florence Gophers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since March 21st.

Anthem Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rhyan Cantelme, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Florence, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games.

On Florence's side, Kamie Rice was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Rice was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Florence let Harlie Hall and Alessandra Felix run wild. Hall went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Felix got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassara Espinoza, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Anthem Prep didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 17-1 loss against Sunnyslope on the 19th. As for Florence, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-3 defeat against St. Johns on the 18th.
