Baseball Game Preview: Hayward Hurricanes vs. Northland Pines Eagles

The Hayward Hurricanes will square off against the Northland Pines Eagles on Tuesday. Hayward will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Thursday, Hayward beat Barron 8-4.

Meanwhile, Northland Pines had just enough and edged out Osceola 4-2 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Brody Hoeft and Jonathan Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hoeft pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Miller struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Hoeft has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Hoeft got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, while Miller went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jonah Will, who went 2-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May.

Northland Pines' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hayward, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8-1.

Hayward took their win against Northland Pines in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 22-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
