Baseball Recap: Covina Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Covina ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Rowland Raiders 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Colts have posted against the Raiders since April 27, 2016.

Cesar Guzman spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Covina is 7-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Declan Bowers, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

Covina's victory bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Rowland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-17.

Covina will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Raiders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
