Softball Recap: Kewanee Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Kewanee and Orion, and Kewanee kept the tradition alive. The Boilermakers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Chargers a 9-0 shutout on Friday. The Boilermakers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Chargers, too.

The result came thanks to Kalleigh Gale's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Audrey Clucas was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kieryn Abernathy was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Kewanee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Kewanee has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Orion, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-9.

Looking ahead, Kewanee will be playing at home against Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Orion, they will take on Farmington in a tournament on Saturday.
