Baseball Recap: Santa Rosa Makes It Nine in a Row on the Road

Santa Rosa had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Hozho Academy Wolves with a sharp 15-5 victory on Friday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Maddox Lucero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Landyn Zamora was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Joshua Cordova was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Santa Rosa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Santa Rosa pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Hozho Academy, with the defeat, they broke their 17-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-5.

Looking ahead, Santa Rosa will square off against Loving at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. Hozho Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
