JOHNSTON, S.C. -
Strom Thurmond (Johnston, S.C.) snapped the five-game winning streak of
Brookland-Cayce (Cayce, S.C.), with a 42-13 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Jauveer Hammond touchdown pass to
Kendall Hill in the second quarter, the Rebels were up 21-7 at the half.
Strom Thurmond grew its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. ST's lone score in the quarter came on a Hammond touchdown pass to
Tyree Stidem.
Coming into the game the Johnston school had allowed 18.8 points per game this year.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Rebels, who lost to North Augusta last week, 27-20. The defeat comes as a step back for Brookland-Cayce, who notched a 21-14 victory over Dreher in its previous outing.
Strom Thurmond (5-1) will play a AAA Region V game against Airport next week, while Brookland-Cayce (5-1) will take on Gilbert also in a AAA Region V game.
