Baseball Recap: Chicago Mt. Carmel Triumphs

Chicago Mt. Carmel had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 17-11 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Brother Rice Crusaders 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Caravan have posted since April 26th.

Jake Matise spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Fernandez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Mario Medina also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Brother Rice, the loss snapped their winning streak at 25 games and leaves them with a 26-2 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since March 22nd.

On Brother Rice's side, they got a good showing from Tadgh Callaghan, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Gavin Triezenberg was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Brady Cunningham, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Chicago Mt. Carmel will have a chance to go back-to-back against Brother Rice: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
