Baseball Game Preview: Lawndale Cardinals vs. Morningside Monarchs

Lawndale has gone a perfect 6-0 against Morningside recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lawndale Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Morningside Monarchs at 3:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lawndale has three straight victories, Morningside has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Lawndale didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Morningside with a sharp 14-3 win on Tuesday. Considering the Cardinals have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Issaiah Alvarado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Seth Alex Rodriguez, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Blake Maldonado was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Lawndale's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Morningside, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
