Softball Recap: River Mill Find Success

River Mill never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Ascend Leadership on Thursday. They never let the Aviators get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Aviators: they've now won five in a row.

Lexi Melton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, River Mill got a massive performance out of Summer Basden, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Pryce Lovette was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

The victory got River Mill back to even at 5-5. As for Ascend Leadership, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Ascend Leadership will take on Chatham Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. River Mill will be paying especially close attention to Ascend Leadership's game: after Ascend Leadership faces off against Chatham Charter, they'll take on River Mill again at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
